Mums In Business!

Continuing our new regular feature about Mums In Business!

Gayle Whiting tells us about her new venture...

"If you are anything like me there is nothing like having your first child to focus your mind and make you realise there is more to life than the rat race. Ever since my son Ethan came along I have been trying to find a way to balance precious time with my rapidly growing son, my husband, work and the usual endless list of things needed to keep the household running whilst earning enough money that we don't go bankrupt!"

gayle"So setting up my own business might have been the last thing on my mind you think. But quite the opposite - it may bring lots of pressure and work and is certainly not for the faint-hearted but I can think of nothing more rewarding than being your own boss and making a difference to someone else's life. And so Gymboree Basingstoke was born!"

We'll be catching up with Gayle in a few months to find out how things are going!

Organix Nursery Food Awards
Organix Nursery AwardsThe Nursery Food Awards 2007 are being launched this month.  Organix, in partnership with the Soil Association, and supported by Hobart and Nursery World to champion those nurseries that are providing healthy, fresh, local and organic foods for young children.

Nursery staff, parents and the general public are being asked to nominate those nurseries that provide fresh, healthy and enjoyable food.

The best nursery will win £1000 of Hobart kitchen equipment, and two runners-up will each receive £500 of Hobart equipment. The top 50 nurseries will each receive an organic goodie box.

In addition, the Organix Nursery Cookbook Award is to be awarded to the best cookbook or recipes submitted by a nursery. The winner's cookbook or recipes will be transformed into a practical and stylish website and also published in book format.

The application form is available at www.organix.com/nurseryfoodawards and the closing date is September 7. The judges will visit short-listed nurseries in October, and the winning nurseries will be announced in November.

Monkey March!
WO4LO and Organix were delighted to support the Monkey March in the Monkey Forest in Staffordshire on Friday 15th June in aid of local charities. More than 700 under-fives
took part in the first Monkey March at Trentham Gardens!  Organiser Carl from Socatots told us:

"My little boy Luis was in hospital with respiratory problems and with the Monkey Forest reopening recently, I thought it would be good to arrange a walk around here to raise money for charity.  My target was to get 250 people here. Seven hundred people registered and that is amazing."

"Youngsters enjoyed spotting monkeys during their three-quarters-of-a-mile jaunt, in aid of the Donna Louise Trust's Treetops Hospice and the Cheethams children's ward at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire."
Monkey March

Our congratulations go Carl and his team on a very success event!
