Yesterday we went to our regular messy play class then on the way back we stopped at a new play park (well face-lifted play park!) for lunch. We went to Sainsburys before hand to pick up sandwiches and a drink and then spent a very nice hour having lunch and Alice enjoyed the fab play equipment - you can just see the really cool wooden train in the background of the photo.

[attachment=75]

I was really impressed with the quality of the equipment - although there must have been an explosion in a wood factory judging by the amount of bark chip that had been laid!

Alice of course was much more interested in the big slide! We also did pony rides, tractor rides, pig racing and general tearing about! And it didn't pourdown like last year so generally a huge success!

Our two weeks hols in France may not have improved my French but we has such a brilliant time! We spent a week at http://www.country-kids.fr which just goes on getting better and I'll going to write more about this in our July newsletter and the second week we spent with my Mum and Dad in the SW central part of France.

Alice had an amazing time with Grandma and Grandad. We went to the Zoo and for a boat road and had fun just hanging out rowing, fishing, biking and walking.

One thing I did notice was no evidence of classes and groups for little ones like we have over here - I spotted one nursery in the South but now notices about such things. I'm sure they must exist over there, maybe in the bigger towns?

Anyhow, June seems to have vanished into thin air so sorry for lack of blogging.

Still on look out for replacement bloggers once Alice starts school in Sept so PM if you'd like to do it!

Forum member be the first to visit!  Our official announcement goes out on Tuesday when we update the links on WO4LO :50:

Are your little ones growing up?
So are we!

Over the past 2 years we've grown to over 11,000 listings across the UK and over 18,000 of you visit every month!

I never expected WO4LO to be such a success and I thank you sincerely for your support.

My own daughter Alice is now nearly 4 and starts school in September (gulp!) and I find myself in a similar situation as I did two years ago, how do I find out what classes, groups and clubs she can go to after school?

The answer is http://www.whatson4schoolkids.co.uk - everything that WO4LO is for children aged 5 to 12 years!

I'd also like to introduce you to Zena who is a Mum of two school aged children and has been working on WO4SK with me since the end of 2007.  Zena is now the driving force behind WO4SK and you'll be hearing a lot more from her!

I hope that as your children grow you find WO4SK very helpful and I hope that with your support WO4SK will be a huge success.  We're working away across the UK just like we did for WO4LO so if your area isn't covered yet it will be soon!

Read on to find out more and please pass on the news to your friends with older children.

The same, but different

When you visit http://www.whatson4schoolkids.co.uk you will notice that things look the same but a bit different!

We've kept the search and layout the same as WO4LO, just with new colours and a logo. Â

This means you can use the search as you would in WO4LO,  searching by county, town, postal area and then refining by activity type, age or day of the week if you like.

We also have a helpful information page describing the many activities for 5 to 12 year olds.  Everything from tennis, drama, uniformed groups to ice skating, gymnastics and rugby.
Our Sponsors
We're delighted to be working with Whole Earth as sponsors of http://www.whatson4schoolkids.co.uk. Â

They'll be helping us over the next 12 months to grow the website, bring you offers on their range of organic family foods and giving out some great compeition prizes!

We'd like to thank them for their support and sharing our vision!

Kids Only

We expect the kids to use our new website as much as their parents and so we have our Junior Ed looking after our Kids Only page.  Beth (aged 10) tells us a bit more ....

Hi, I run the kids only page, it's a cool page where I tell you about things that are happening, with the help of my friends Charlotte, Kieran and my brother Benn.  The Kids Page is the place to check out whats new.  By the way, don't forget that we can chat on the forum!

Newsletters
 Â
From July we'll start sending out WO4SK newsleters and you can register now to receive these.  And our prize draw also runs on WO4SK, you could win 50 worth of books from Poppy's Books just for registering for our newsletters!

WO4SK newsletters will be packed with information about activities from Zena and Beth as well as other interesting features for your and your family.
 Â
Forum
 Â
We've just opened the forum on WO4SK and we have 10 goody bags brimming with Whole Earth goodness for the first 10 forum members to reach 25 posts!

The forum will be a great place for parents and kids to swap ideas and ask questions about the many activities out there.

Also you can join in our book club, competitions and games!

What more excuse do you need to login and get posting!!
 Â
Design our WO4SK mascot competition

One of Beth's first jobs is to find us a mascot for WO4SK.  We have the dear little Watson as our WO4LO mascot and we'll looking for kids out there to come up with a design for the WO4SK mascot.

The mascot can be anything you like, just send a scanned copy of your drawing to info@whatson4schoolkids.co.uk with your name, age, address and the name of the mascot you've designed by 31st July 2008.

We'll then include the shortlist of designs in our August newsletter and you can vote for the winner!

The winner's design will then be turned into artwork by our designer and ready for publication on http://www.whatson4schoolkids.co.uk.

The winner will win a full set of MoPods with thanks to the team at Moshi Monsters and a Reeves Superior Giant Colour Box with thanks to the team at http://www.crafts4kids.co.uk

The other shortlisted designs will also win a single MoPod each and 10 Crafts4Kids.co.uk gift vouchers! Â
 Â
Become a fan on Facebook too!

Just like WO4LO, WO4SK has it's own Facebook page!  If you're a fan of Facebook then become a fan of WO4SK, and tell your Facebook friends too!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whats-On-4...716?ref=mf
 Â
Growing fast Â

WO4SK will cover more and more of the UK over the rest of 2008 so if we don't cover your area yet we will do soon!

But if you do know of activities, classes, groups or clubs in your area please tell us so we can add them sooner - or tell them about us as they can list for free!

Thanks

Today Alice and I went to visit our elderly neighbour in hospital (Alice completely fasinated by the blood tranfusion he was receiving) and on the way back we went to a country house and gardens on a whim. It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours just enjoying the sun, flowers and baby ducks and the fluffiest goslings!

Although not specifically geared up for 3 year olds it was a nice safe place for her to run about to burn off some energy and, as she is now flaked out on the sofa, it seems to have done the trick!

I went to a new class today that replaces one we travelled about 20-25 minutes to get to - it got me thinking that that was quite a long journey but because we're limited to afternoons now we can't pick the closest classes.

So I just wondered if anyone can beat our previous record of 25 minutes and why do you travel so far!

When two parenting books arrived in the post it seemed like an ideal time to turn my attention away from children's books for a while and review books that might help us as parents.

Seven Secrets of Successful Parenting: Or How to Achieve the Almost Impossible by Karen Doherty and Georgia Coleridge

Seven Secrets is a very stylish and readable book. The authors both have 4 children and when they started asking those familiar questions "How do you stay calm? How do you handle bullying? How do you stop your children fighting?" they found that other parents' answers would depend on their personality and parenting style. Thus - the Seven Parent Types. Find out which one you are and then, my favourite part of the book, try the others and see if they work better for you.

Bantam Press £12.99 p/b

POPPYS BOOKS PRICE £8.99 + £1.50 P&P

Flying Start: Coaching your children for life by Emma Sargent
Emma Sargent started to use her skills as a Life Coach and Trainer with her own children. In this book she shows parents how to deal more effectively with their children by using very simple techniques that are used in coaching. Emma promotes active listening, describes how to ask great questions and demonstrates how you can help your children reach their potential. There is so much more in this book than I have space to write; processes that can be used to build good relationships with your children and others in your life.

Cyan Books £9.99 p/b

Today Alice started a new class - Fitness Fun!

Because it's for older children Mums do the class with the children - which was a bit weird - for all the Mums! We all were peaking through the door every 5 minutes to see what was happening! And it's certainly not a chance for any Mummy-me time as the class is only 40 minutes and on an industrial park so not even a cafe to go to with a book!

Alice seemed to enjoy it though and it is probably a good fore runner to PE at school (gulp!)

Sorry have been a bit quiet this month - I've no idea where May has gone!

But we did have a busy weekend!  On Friday we went to the circus.  It was organised by the local school and I wasn't sure what to expect but it was excellent and Alice loved it!

They had clowns, acrobats and a variety of other acts of skill.  The clowns were very funny - both for grown-ups and children!  Also bouncy castles that were included in price so Alice had a brilliant time - a very well organised event!

Yesterday we went to the Watercress Festival in Alresford.  They has a park and ride with a difference as the ride was on a steam train!  At the festival they has lots of foodie stalls, bands, circus acts for the children, merry-go-round and cooking demos by ATW.  Alice seemed to really enjoy it - or that could have been because of the massive ice cream she had!

A fab day out, especially in the sun!

Don't forget to tell us your favourite places to visit with little ones - see our competition section for more details as you could win a little ones picnic!

Totz2teens is is an Internet based community for parents of any age child and parents to be.  We have created a fantastic place to go for 24/7 advice and support for parents with children of all ages and above all it is free to join. Â

We have a strong community with new members joining regularly from all over the UK and abroad.  We have found that quite a large number of new parents are just not confident enough to attend groups or do not have a family network available to offer advice but feel able to use the internet to gain support.  It is a fantastic way to learn new ways to help your children and not feel so isolated when things are getting a bit tough. Â

Totz2teens is not just about the serious side of parenting.  We love having a natter about anything.  At the moment there is a thread about knitting but later this day we could be talking about shoes and handbags.  We run regular competitions for members too!

One totz2teens member says "I'm so glad I found totz2teens, the forum has made such a difference to me! I feel like I belong here and wonder how I managed without it! I have been through some difficult times myself and have found the support here to be wonderful and made me feel as if they truly sympathised with me.  I would also like to think that I have been able to help someone else in similar circumstances, even if it's just lending a friendly ear or shoulder to cry on or somewhere to let off steam."

We would very much like for you to be included in our community so why not pop along to http://www.totz2teens.co.uk
