Why educational toys are perfect for your toddler this Christmas

Whether you like it or not, Christmas is around the corner – meaning that it’s time to think about the kind of gifts you’d like Santa to bring your little ones on December 25th. There are, of course, a huge amount of toys out there to choose from; just watching a single advert break on television during the run up to the big day can leave parents’ heads spinning.

The best kind of gift you can give your toddler this Christmas is one that helps to educate them and aid their development – all while, importantly, still keeping playtime fun. The very thought of ‘educational toys’ may strike up an initial image of very plain toys that drain the excitement out of proceedings in order to teach but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to modern toys.

Children are blessed with an in-built sense of enthusiasm and discovery, so if you give them the right types of toys they’ll be eager to broaden their horizons through play. Much like reading books with your child can be a great way to develop their reading and writing skills, playing with your children can help to stimulate their creative tendencies.

Many leading brands offer toys that will do wonders in terms of helping your child to develop in a number of ways. Lego is a perfect example of a product that offers endless possibilities to the user, allowing them to build anything they like with the results limited only by imagination. Of course, some Lego products will be unsuitable for young children because of the small parts – although the Duplo range, featuring only larger bricks, is perfect for toddlers.

Another brand offering a wide range of toys that will help to fuel your child’s development is Fisher Price. From infant-friendly pre-school toys through to the Imaginext range, which is generally suitable for children of three and up, the company has a selection of wonderful toys that will both thrill your child and offer them a developmental advantage.

Leapfrog also produces a number of fantastic educational toys that can help with your child’s reading and writing skills. Emulating gadgets that your child will have seen you use, such as laptops and tablet computers like the iPad, Leapfrog toys catch children’s attention by housing educational play within a familiar environment.

These kinds of products are perfect examples of toys that combine learning tools with a genuine sense of joy. And that’s the key; if you supply your child with an educational toy that’s no fun to play with then it’ll be at the bottom of the toy box and forgotten about before you know it. Get the mix right, however, and your toddler will be enjoying the benefits not just for Christmas – but for months and years to come.
